There's no denying the obvious trend that emerged within days of New York Fashion Week for the Spring 2011 season. There was an abundance of all white looks that was sheer and layered. Many designers had starting looks that were all white, even Alex Wang (not shown) after seasons of his trademark black switched it up this season as well. I'm really giddy for next year to see how this trend will be interpreted for the consumer.

The Althea Harper Spring 2011 Presentation was extremely to the point for her vision of focusing on shape with a collection of feminine and wearable pieces. I was not familiar with her stint on Project Runway, to be honest I stopped watching (sort of) when the show went to Lifetime. The presentation showed that she can design pieces that are based with shaping the body such as structured blazers, body con-dresses and stove pipe pants. It's always pleasant to see a Project Runway Alum having an admirable presentation.

I vowed before fashion week began to attend shows of new designers or designers I never heard of. So I was beyond ecstatic that I attended Verlaine show. Vaughn Alexander the designer of Verlaine, showed a collection not for the faint of heart. With rock metal music blasting through the speakers there was nothing sweet about this collection. Softly draped tie-dye maxi dresses were the opener that transitioned to off the shoulder tops with full skirts. Then it went right back to the more to a sexy-clad draped dresses with open backs and zipper detail in a varied of solid colors. I appreciated Vaughn vision and his aesthetic that he showed for the upcoming season. There was some much white, mixing of prints on the runway and romantic collections this season it was good to attend a show that didn't jump on the bandwagon. I can't wait to see what he will do for the Fall.

Bebe Spring 2011 show was beyond packed. Everyone was buzzing if model and reality star Kim Kardashin would make an appearance, I don't know if she did I left the venue before the designer took the final bow. I didn't want to get caught up in the traffic. However Bebe presented a fairly sexy 70's inspired collection. There were eyelet dresses, high waisted pants, trench coats and fringe detailing especially on the bags. The color palette of the show was majority muted with cream, beiges and a pop of coral and light blues. I've known Bebe to be a mall based store however, I really appreciated the direction the label went this season.

This was my first time attending a runway show at The Green Shows held at the Metropolitan Pavilion. It was a great departure to attend a show that's not about being "high fashion" but it's purpose show clothing that functional. It was also refreshing to see models of various ages and sizes.
BrightYoungThings designer Eliza Starbuck showed the many ways to wear her signature little black dress. I think it's a clever idea to have a fashion show that shows how versatile one clothing item can be. When I usually shop and this might be the same for other shoppers as well, we buy with tunnel vision thinking of what we need this item for and that's it. But as this runway show focused on it's the creativity that makes clothes sustainable.
