I usually associate stripes to the like of Andy Warhol's silver factory in the 60's to the Beetlejuice film with Michael Keaton. However many designers inspiration varied to many different forms to incooperate stripes. For spring I particularly adore the black and white stripe bathing suit on model Siri Tollerød for Anna Molinari because the stripes are going in different directions.
