| Let's Talk About Essential Oils with Andrea Neipp of Young Living |
Essential oils are one of my go-to in my day-to-day routine. There are so many uses for oils that can be used in our daily lives that I won't list it all, but it's so easy and healthy to incorporate where needed. My favorite uses are in the morning, I inhale some lemon oil to fully wake me up and after a rigorous workout, messaging peppermint oil on my muscles to aid in blood circulation. However with the recent demand of wellness and self-care rituals, essential oils are gaining some momentum. I spoke with Andrea Neipp the Senior Director of Global Brand Awareness of Young Living, a company the sells essential oils, about the Young Living brand and why and how people are using essential oils.
1. How did Young Living Essential Oils get started?
Young Living Essential Oils created a community of wellness that started small in 1993, when D. Gary Young and Mary Young developed their first organic herb farming and distillation operation. At the time, Gary Young had already discovered the incredible power of essential oils, but because the quality of available oils varied so greatly, he’d been unable to fully harness their potential. Mary’s previous experience in the direct-selling industry enabled the Youngs to fulfill their vision and establish a business that would empower its members to share truly pure essential oils with the world. After establishing Young Living in 1994, the Youngs developed more farmland in Utah and Idaho and began cultivating lavender, peppermint, melissa, clary sage, and many other herbs. Fueled by a growing demand for top-quality essential oils, Young Living designed and built the largest, most technologically advanced essential oil distillery in North America. In harmony with these efforts, Young Living developed its groundbreaking Seed to Seal® process, which preserves the integrity and potency of essential oils through every step of the production process.
2. What oils are considered Young Living’s “best-sellers”?
Lavender Essential Oil is one of Young Living’s most popular oils, and is a must-have. Lavender essential oil has a floral, clean, calming scent and can be used aromatically or topically.
3.What essentials oils should a beginner have for themselves?
Lavender, Peppermint and Lemon are great introductory essential oils. Lavender is one of Young Living’s most popular oils, not just because of its classic scent but also because it is highly versatile. From skin care products to relaxing routines, this oil can infuse many areas of your life. As for Peppermint, it has an invigorating scent that can help create a focused environment when diffused and a cooling sensation when applied topically, especially after physical activity. Finally, Lemon has a bright and joyful aroma, and can eliminate odors with its clean, fresh scent when diffused.
4. Do you have any tips for how people can safely choose the right essential oils?
Essential oils are highly concentrated and can often be more powerful than expected. 5. Why do you think essentials oils are trending right now?
People are more invested than ever in their overall health and wellness, and essential oils are an excellent addition to a daily wellness routine. 6. What are the benefits of using an oil diffusor?
Diffusing essential oils help to create a pleasant environment while maximizing the beneficial properties of essential oils. It’s important to note that overheating essential oils using aroma lamps or candles can render oils less beneficial. Ultrasonic diffusion combines the advantages of a humidifier, air purifier, atomizer and aromatherapy diffuser into one by breaking a mixture of essential oils and water into millions of microparticles and dispersing them into the air.
7. Besides diffusing, what are other ways to use the oils?
There are many ways to apply the oils, and it’s really important to check the usage instructions on the label first. The most common practices include aromatic diffusion, topical application and dietary consumption. When applying oils to the skin, you may need to dilute them first with a carrier oil- I love YL’s V-6 oil because it is scentless and is quickly absorbed by the skin.
8.What is your favorite essential oil and why?
It’s difficult to choose just one favorite, because I have multiple favorites! I love YL’s Peace and Calming blend, and diffuse it to relax before bed. I carry a Stress Away roll-on in my purse, and find myself reaching for it when I am sitting in traffic. I’m also a huge fan of our Thieves oil blend, and diffuse it all year long.
