Reinventing the Denim Jacket

As they prepare to return to the stage with The Big Reunion tour this December, there is one part of their heyday that '90s girl band B*Witched will want to leave behind them. While we still remember the words to their hits and have been known to pull off some of the dance routines, we'd rather forget those shocking double-denim looks. Although denim jackets have made a comeback in the last few years, there are certain rules that must be followed to bring this look into the 21st century.

Just when you thought that denims' days were over, fashion-forward stars like Jessica Alba, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Cara Delevingne started working this tough fabric into their everyday looks. With a host of famous faces buying into the revival of the '90s staple, the nation's favourite high street stores are catching on too. Ditch those misgivings and shop on-trend women's jackets at Very to keep chic and warm through autumn/winter.

How do you make sure your denim jacket is more Cara D than 'C'est La Vie'? Luckily the latest styles have been updated with a load of new details. Try a cropped cut with three-quarter sleeves, channel the vintage trend with an oversized shape, or opt for a jacket with a design feature like embroidered paneling across the back and shoulders or punky zip details.

The truly brave fashionista can copy the likes of Alexa Chung and go for double denim. Britney and Justin at the 2001 American Music Awards effectively killed off this trend for a good few years, but if you go for mismatched shades and avoid even a hint of patchwork, this can be an edgy and modern look.
Thanks to its trendy makeover, the denim jacket has joined the ranks of the classic white shirt and timeless red lip as one of the ultimate style staples of the modern woman's wardrobe. Whether you're after a lightweight cover-up for casual days out or looking to dress down a killer cocktail dress, this iconic design is a style savvy choice whatever the occasion.
